Instancing PvP | 11.14.2008 , 11:10 PM
So here are my problems with instancing PvP. Personally i think it destroys immersion because of all the porting around to instances. It makes it feel sort of like your not in the real world of the game. One of the main things that turned me off to Warhammer Online was the fact that to get any xp or anything you had to constantly port around to Scenarios(Battlegrounds).

So this kind of leads into my other question, what do you people think about travel? I feel like when you get on a planet you should mostly have to use your mount to get around, and the only instant travel should be when your going into an instance. I feel like instant travel also breaks immersion alot.

What do you think?

yea i agree, warhammer scenarios got very lame after a while.. i would have liked more focus on castles for more world pvp

mayb a battlefield or 2 for max levels would be cool but for the most part i really hope that they focus on world pvp and pvp zones and such... i think scenarios ruins world immersion.

I'm against instancing in any form (including separate servers).

In before the "every MMO evar has more than 1 server": Eve-Online.

The song is "Jenny" by Tommy Tutone I believe, and the number is actually 867-5309.

On topic, Instanced PvP is complete crap, ruins immersion, and ends up with more waiting in a queue than anything else. Battle should happen ANYwhere, and possibly ANY time. This is war, not "Meet me at the flagpole after school."

I made a thread about this not too long ago. I'm not a fan of instancing, but some people did suggest ways in which it could be used well.

What I don't want is static 'battlegrounds' or 'scenarios' which you have to run over and over and over again.

If battlefronts moved and the instances were somewhat dynamic and moved around then I wouldn't mind as much.

A huge NO to static, instanced PvP grinds for points though.

Open word PvP, if it can be done right. In one of my previous topics I discussed at how world PvP on an epic level ruins player experience as you will be seeing a 10-20 FPS slide show during hectic moments of game play or the server will find it hard to bare. It would have to be scaled down to suit smaller numbers that doesn't benifit a PvP fest

I question if Blizzard believed it was too late to organize a sort of World PvP system seeing as how the game was already well integrated into the market. I suppose they believed the PvP servers were good enough, but alot of us want objective-based PvP you don't have to wait in line for.

If I want to go to the enemy castle and attack it, I should be able to without having to stand in a que 'waiting my turn' to do so.

Not by design, the chinese server was a necessity due to legal issues, and the test server is well...necessary. But its one world running on what amounts to a supercomputer. (I believe its the largest supercomputer in the gaming industry, really epic feat of programming as well). Also with their newest upgrade, 500-1000 man fleet fights are becoming feasible without server issues.

Planetside managed to do 300 man battles in an FPS format. Nothing impossible in making epic PVP a reality.

One of the major problems with open world PVP is that it can scale to unplayable levels.

Not only that I think I remember reading something about sliders for character customization which means more lag with lots of people gathered.

Anyway, although open world pvp is the pwnzors I believe the major PVP should be encouraged in instances to keep it at a controlled level. Open world pvp would be more suitable for skirmishes.
